Womad 2011

Back for the second year, Gavin Knowles, Margaret Cooke and Kim Collins provided structural engineering advice for Roots Architecture to make 4 stages in 4 days. These workshops aim to build 4 stages for performances on Sunday night and are part of an ongoing collaboration between Tangentfield and Fourth Door.

Four teams had less than four days to source, design and build a stage. Materials had to be reclaimed, re-useable or sourced from Charlton Park itself. This year electric power also supplied a pedal powered audition stage with cycling energy mainly provided by children!

For our engineers it was an amazing experience, to find solutions based on the materials available, to make fast on the spot decisions, to work with a committed group of people with varying backgrounds and philosophies and to witness the end result. The morning Tai Chi session was another highlight which Integral are now considering introducing into the working week.
