Field barns are an integral part of the Yorkshire landscape. The buildings though are now in decline with limited agricultural use and sited far from the road. Integral Structural Design have been working with the Creative Re-use Team at Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios to find a use which preserves the fabric and is entirely reversible and invisible from the outside.
The outcome is a lightweight demountable pod which sits inside the building allowing people to stay at the barn. Services come from a trailer serviced by the local farmer.
The project has won the 2009 Sustain BRE Award for Development.
Feildbarns was shortlisted for BCI Small Building Project Award and their Conservation Award.
