Work Shadowing Scheme

10 April 2019

The London office recently hosted a work shadowing day for a first year student whom is currently studying for a MEng Civil Engineering degree at Imperial College London.

Integral Engineering Design are part of the Work Shadowing Scheme with universities across the UK. This scheme encourages and enables students like Constantina to gain exposure to the industry and get a glimpse into the day-to-day life of a working office, observing the roles and responsibilities of Civil/Structural Engineers.

We spent the day showing her the programs and software we use, the vast range of projects the company has been involved with (past and present), and going through the structural design of steel beams and theories for a live project.

We asked Constantina to provide us with some feedback and the response we received was very positive and appreciative. She initially told us she was not entirely sure she had chosen the right course, however following her time with us was now convinced that she had and is looking forward to progressing into her second year of studies.

As the engineer who mentored Constantina, I found the day to be fulfilling and satisfying and was reassured we didn’t scare her off….phew!
