The redevelopment of 21 Great Windmill Street entailed the complete demolition and rebuild of an existing four storey town house with a basement in central Soho. The project involved lowering the basement level to provide greater headroom for a modern kitchen with two floors of restaurant above and three floors of residential accommodation. Challenges included the stability to the adjoining buildings, which required propping, during the demolition and rebuild and the affect of additional loads. The structural design of the new building is concrete to the ground floor with a steel frame above providing a rapid build with light weight components for this constrained site.
