Carbon Fibre

Working with experts at the University of Bath we developed a solution to bond carbon fibre plates and sheets to the structure in the refurbishment of The College of Law.

A large new opening was required for the feature staircase. Forming such large openings to existing buildings can be problematic and typically involves fitting deep and heavy downstand steel beams. These are difficult and time consuming to lift into position and awkward to route services around. Integral Engineering Design’s solution was to use carbon fibre, a product normally associated with the Formula One industry. The sheets of carbon fibre were applied, just like wallpaper, to the soffit of the slab and once cured they act as additional reinforcement, resulting in significant time and cost savings.
