Filwood Community Centre
Bristol
The redevelopment and extension of Filwood Community Centre is part of the wider, community-led Levelling Up Fund regeneration of Filwood Broadway in Knowle West, Bristol. The retrofit will enhance this much-loved community facility, providing outstanding social and cultural spaces delivering positive change for the local area.
Minimising demolition and promoting reuse were key client design criteria. The 1930’s masonry community building is being retained through creative reuse and sustainable, low carbon construction informed the design of three new build extensions formed of cross laminated timber (CLT) with glulam timber framing.
