The scheme has retained but redeveloped the existing 1980s quayside office block – North Quay House – owned by Legal & General UK Property Fund. The four-storey, steel-frame corner extension provides a new double height atrium entrance and additional office space, and avoided significant structural strengthening of the existing building. New larger glazing on the existing facades enhances the building’s environmental performance with a level, landscaped courtyard and interior refurbishment completing the transformation. The client has a strong sustainability ethic and so low carbon materials, including cross laminated timber floor slabs, were included in the design which aspires to achieve BREEAM ‘Outstanding’ accreditation.
