Dental School, University of Bristol

The University of Bristol wanted to provide the number one dental teaching building in the country. To meet this brief, state of the art clinical suites that were student focussed and provide an appropriate collaborative environment have been designed. As well as urgent, restorative and child dental health, the building incorporates sterile services, skills and laboratories as well as supporting office, social and events spaces. This project, in the heart of Bristol city centre, alongside the Floating Harbour, has transformed an existing office building into a thriving educational hub. A high degree of coordination and understanding was required between the structural design and services. As with many refurbishments researching the existing steel frame and concrete floor slabs and maximising the reuse of this structure was important for saving embodied carbon and costs.
