Iffley Academy

Oxford

An Academy for children and young people with special educational needs up to the age of 18. The existing school had to remain live throughout the construction which created challenges with regard to making new drainage connections. Space planning is key in the design of SEN schools and the client wanted innovative and exciting learning spaces. The structure had to be as flexible as possible and remain unobtrusive. The new building is a 2-3 storey steel framed structure with composite precast concrete planks forming the floors and a lightweight structural metal decking to form the roof structure. The project was constructed in two phases with staff and students moving into the new buildings in January 2020.

“Working with Integral Engineering Design is a collaborative and pleasant experience. Their engineers listen and understand our requirements and those of the other design disciplines, they are flexible in their approach and they react quickly to our requests for information.”
