Therapies topping out
11 July 2018
Members of the design and construction team, alongside the client Royal United Hospitals (RUH) and donor, Christina Brownsword of the Brownsword Charitable Foundation, gathered on the roof of the new RNHRD and Brownsword Therapies Building at the RUH in Bath to celebrate ‘topping out’.
This is the centuries old ceremony where the final piece of structure is installed or the roof completed on a building. In 14th century England, topping out ceremonies were marked by a yew tree branch being placed at the highest point of the building. In 21st century Bath however, we had to make do with a bucket of mortar!
The construction continues now with installing the external envelope, the mechanical and electrical services and the architectural finishes, however this is an exciting milestone to reach and it represents lots of hard work by everyone.
The building is expected to be open for its first patients next summer.
