World Mental Health Day 2019

9 October 2019

Having worked in HR for most of my career, I have over the years supported colleagues with a broad range of illnesses, including spells of poor mental health.

I was therefore extremely pleased when Integral offered me the opportunity to train as a Mental Health First Aider for the company. Last week I attended a course accredited by the Mental Health First Aid England and in doing so I have joined a growing community of Mental Health First Aiders from a broad range of organisations.

The need for support for people experiencing a mental health illness has never been greater, with the stigma attached to talking about it being challenged and hopefully eroded. One in 6 workers will experience depression, anxiety or problems relating to stress at any one time.

So, this week to celebrate World Mental Health Day on Thursday I have asked everyone at Integral to think about doing one thing that they enjoy, it could be making a cup of tea for a neighbour, going to the gym before work, starting that book that they want to read, taking the dog for a longer walk, anything really! We all need find some time doing the things that bring us joy don’t we?

If you are reading this…. challenge yourself to finding your small thing to make you happy!
